Chief Rancher Cheri: "Hello everyone! Apologies for this late report but we have been on a tight schedule. So far so good, and it does not seem that we are heading onto the path of starvation like the previous colony... but we learned from their mistakes and so far everything
To start with, we got a minimal Hatch ranch ready and kept an eye on the three which were running wild in the Colony, so when I was able to wrangle them they had a place ready for them."
Day 16 we started taking care of the Hatch and we have now 4 of them tamed and 5 eggs hatching nearby. We are thinking of installing incubators to speed up the process now that we have the automation, it's the power used that might be a problem. We will eventually move them to another facility but this is basic enough it works perfectly.
It took us another 10 days to fill the Pacu's farm. Next time we might try to use multiple pumps to speed it up so they can reach the feeding station faster. But as of Day 35 our 2 Pacus are now tame too! We have installed a kitchenette directly there but we are missing the big kitchen and are planning to either add an extra tile to the left or eventually move it to a bigger room where we can have CO2 to keep the food sterile. At the moment the fridge stays mostly empty so the food does not have time to spoil."
We have been able to start the production of copper using a Refinary Machine hooked into a pool of polluted water. The temperature of the water itself has raised 2-3°C since but it works perfectly well and is only limited by how much time we can spend on those wheels to power the machine.
So all we have left to do now is to add auto-sweepers to remove eggs and meat or pacu fillet as soon as they appear which will help free some of our ranchers time.
We have also found some Dreckos nearby, we are close to enter the area. We set up a water airlock and are going to move a pocket of hydrogen that is there close enough to a few peppa plants growing and hopefully it will sustain them and let them regrow scales until we can grow some mealwood or peppa plants for them. We should be able to fit a wheel close by with a battery to shear them...
That is only temporary though and we should be able to set up a more permanent ranch under the Pacu farm once we start our SPOM somewhere, send some surplus hydrogen in it. As long as we can feed a couple of them we can move others there for shearing. We do need reed fibers to make some atmo suits eventually and we have not found any in the wilderness so far."
Chief Builder Camille: "We are trying out a new layout for our base, but it is far from being finished. We are currently working on changing the latrines for lavatories, and on a system to pump out the CO2 from accumulating in the core. We are only 8 so far but we expect more to eventually join us so there is a lot of work ahead to accommodate them all, but we are looking forward to it! And if we can produce enough meat then we should see them coming in soon.
That is all for today, we hope to see you again soon!"
Notes:
The early Hatch design seems to be from Ishamoridin although I found it on this guide.
I tried to compare two designs for Pacu farms while playing The Invisible Facility, and in the end I produced way more fillets by using the dummies version one (I inversed it in this case to have the kitchen part facing left) but it might have been only because the other one had only one breeder. I liked the automation better in the minimalised one, I could remove the egg shells by sweeper. I might write about the comparison later.
My metal refinery at the moment:
It was funny to see how the polluted water bead raised and stopped the carbon dioxide while there is plenty of oxygen just below. I mopped it and the gases exchanged places, but my dupes are using masks in the area anyway.
